AT THIS HEIGHT, BUT NOT YET IN ITS FULLNESS (MDD)

2023, performance

Myrthe van der Mark performs at this height, but not yet in it fullness (MDD) especially for the museum, working with rituals, life cycles, and the four classical elements.

For my performance at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, I created a bread oven and baked bread using just flour and water. The performance was held on the Day of Religion, but its deeper connection lies in a personal memory. Some time before, my parents visited me for a performance, staying in the village of Deurle, where the museum is located. It was the last holiday my father took before he passed away. He had always been the one to make pizza, and I remember the way he would knead the dough. The repetitive, meditative process of kneading became a significant part of my performance, linking my father's practice with the act of creation. This ritual, once an intimate family moment, transformed into a broader gesture of memory and connection, tying the act of making bread to my ongoing exploration of personal history and ritual in my work.
